DIY: Turtleneck Sweater Dress Refashion

I bought this turtleneck sweater dress from Victoria's Secret last year and it just never fit me right. The turtleneck was too tight and the whole dress just kind of hung there. Now it fits like a glove!

The first thing that I did was to cut the turtleneck off just below the seam. I folded the material and sewed it with a basic straight stitch. I used the same color thread as the dress.

I then added elastic to each side for a more curve hugging fit. First I put the dress on. Then I marked with safety pins where I wanted the runching to start and end. After I took the dress off, I measured from each armpit down to make sure that each side was even. I pulled the elastic tightly and sewed it along each seam with a zigzag stitch.

This was a quick and simple fix and now this is one of my favorite dresses :-)

  1. Great sweater DIY!!! Looks much better without the turtleneck.
Also your new haircolor and you look so much thinner.
    Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank You Dana :-) I agree I do appear thinner in the after photo but I was the same exact weight in both pics.. Amazing how hair, clothes and the angle make such a difference. Just noticed I was cropped at the boobs in the first pic lol..
